Stalemate in chess is a final position where the player whose turn it is to move – and whose king is not in check – cannot make a legal move without setting his own king in check. When stalemate occurs, the game ends as a draw, independent of the material still remaining on the chessboard. In this book you will find almost 200 diagrams which are classified by themes. I hope they will satisfy the curious as well as the aesthetes and those players who strive to master one of the basic strategies of this noble game. Orazio Puglisi

This book joins volumes 1 and 2. Under each diagram you will find the solution, which – as you prefer – you may cover or not!

In addition to the 3348 diagrams classified by themes, this work contains further illustrations of complete games as well as dozens of more diagrams and one chapter of self-evaluation.

As for volumes 1 and 2, their particularity and difference consists in the fact that every page showing the solutions alternates with the identical page that does not reveal the solutions, so that a search under various conditions is possible.
